Fasting can be a tool to help manage calorie intake throughout the day and disrupt poor habits including snacking. It also carries a raft of physiological benefits including up regulation of BDNF which is the brains ‘fertiliser’ - promoting growth of new neurone and improved function of existing neurons.

If we look at the first benefit alone - there are no hard and fast rules as to how long a fast should be - a ‘beneficial’ fast is one which is long enough to disrupt habits.
