The Perfect Boiled Egg

Bottomline is that everybody’s version of the perfect egg is different but some general principles apply. Cooking protein well is about managing the heat. When cooking an egg ensure it’s room temperature before exposing it to heat. In the case of boiling eggs, place the eggs in cold tap water before bringing to a boil before removing it from the heat. This gradual exposure heat will make a better outcome. Happy cooking!

It’s not always easy to secure the perfect egg, and as a parent I know all too well, if the egg isn’t cooked right then breakfast can be a write-off 😉

  • The key is to place the eggs in a small saucepan and cover with enough water to just cover the eggs.  Place on a high heat with the lid on til boiling.  Remove from the heat, keep the lid on and set a timer for 6 minutes.
  • This method will ensure the yolk is still soft and the white isn’t rubbery and overcooked.
  • Adjust the time to suit your preference.  I then use a knife to take the top off the egg and pop some butter on to melt into the yolk….YUM!
